Fourth year Physics student, Izzie Clarke, recently won the gold award for ‘Best Female’ for her show on University Radio Nottingham (URN) at the National Student Radio Awards. The award night was held at the O2 in London with the awards judged by those at the BBC and Global Radio.

The night itself was presented by BBC Radio 1’s Nick Grimshaw and Capital FM’s Dave Berry and saw students from all over the country gather in London to celebrate and await the results of their work in student radio for the past year.

Entries for the awards were submitted in July; the final 6 nominees were announced at the beginning of October and the winner is revealed at the awards night in London in November. The 4 minute audio entries for ‘Best Female’ were judged by Radio 1, with the award presented by Greg James and Alice Levine on the night.

Izzie said “It was a complete surprise. I would love the opportunity to go into radio after university, so this is just really exciting”.

On top of this, The Science Show on URN won silver in the “Best Speech Programming” category for their mini-series “A Brief History of You”, which was judged by BBC Radio 4 and BBC Radio 4 Extra.
