Biography

Dr Maggie Lieu is an accomplished astrophysicist researcher with a strong passion for exploring the most enormous structures in the universe - galaxy groups and clusters. Through her research, Dr Lieu has gained invaluable insights into the properties and evolution of these structures, which has helped unravel the mysteries of dark matter, dark energy, and the origins and ultimate fate of our cosmos. She is highly skilled in tackling complex scientific challenges posed by large datasets with low statistics and noise, using advanced statistical methods and machine learning techniques to extract unprecedented insights and valuable information from these datasets. Additionally, she is an enthusiastic public engagement enthusiast, actively involved in organising outreach events to promote science to the general public and inspiring future leaders of the scientific community through her lectures at the University of Nottingham's Machine Learning in Science MSc program.
