Biography

I am an Assistant Professor in Politics and International Relations.

Expertise Summary

I am interested in British foreign and security policy, particularly in relation to the Middle East. In the past I have also focused on military interventions in the Middle East and how lessons can be learned from these past operations to inform current and future policy.

I teach in the areas of International Relations, security and a specialist modue on the Middle East and the World.

I am interested in supervising students who want to work on the following areas:

  • British foreign policy (especially in relation to the Middle East)
  • British military interventions in the Middle East
  • UK-Iran relations
  • The Iraq War
  • The use of the past in contemporary policy-making.

Current Research

I am interested in British foreign and security policy in relation to the Middle East historically (20th century forward) and contemporarily. I am also interested in the relationship between the past and contemporary policy-making (lesson learning) and how history can be useful today.

I am currently researching Britain's foreign and security relationship with Iran.
