Associate Teachers' Programme

Programme Overview

PLEASE NOTE: THE ATP IS NOW CLOSED TO NEW PARTICIPANTS. IT WILL BE REPLACED IN SEPTEMBER 2019 BY A NEW COURSE - THE TEACHING AND LEARNING DEVELOPMENT PROGRAMME (TLDP).

IF YOU WOULD LIKE TO BE PLACED ON THE TDLP MAILING LIST AND INFORMED OF THE LAUNCH OF THE NEW PROGRAMME, PLEASE EMAIL: TLDP

The ATP is designed for members of staff who teach, or support teaching as part of another role. It carries 15 M-level credits and leads to Associate Fellowship of the Higher Education Academy – a nationally recognised teaching qualification.

Applicants must be teaching for at least 30 hours per academic year (last or next) to take the full programme and assessment. Teaching activities may include supervision, lecturing, demonstrating, leading seminars or tutorials.

Qualifying participants include:

  • School/Departmental teaching staff on a variety of part-time contracts
  • Research staff where teaching is a part of their work
  • Nursing Practitioner Health Lecturers (PHL’s)
  • Technicians who teach or supervise students.

The ATP programme has several entry points each year, beginning with a full day induction event, followed by a series of workshops. Participant have to attend three days of learning and teaching workshops, with a choice of topics available. Most participants complete the taught element within six months, but some choose to take longer to finish. If you can't attend all of the advertised workshop days, then you'll be able to access alternative dates.

Assessment

Assessment is through submission of a 3000 word Teaching Development report. This report will describe how you planned and/or carried out a development of your teaching or assessment practice.

Accredited Prior Learning (APL)

Experiential learning cannot be taken into account for this programme. However, if you have attended relevant Central Short Courses workshops at any time within three years prior to registration for ATP, these can count towards completion of the programme.
