Description

This year's symposium on the subject of Gender in the Viking Age and Old Norse World will take place at the University of Birmingham on the last Saturday of April, as usual. The symposium is open to all: download a programme and registration form, or register online using the link above.

There will be papers by Dr Roderick Dale and Elisabeth Magin of the University of Nottingham - Roderick's talk is on 'The Pillage People: Macho, Macho Men and the Depiction of Viking Warriors', while Elisabeth will be telling us about 'Trader, doctor, wife - female identities in medieval Bergen'. Other papers will cover interactions between men, promiscuous troll children, the Great Army at Repton, and gender and everyday life in medieval Iceland.
