Professor Jim Thornton was reappointed as chair of the Swedish Research Council’s (Vetenskapsrådet) Clinical Therapy Board for 2017. Professor Thornton has been a member of this board since it was created in 2014. Since 2015 he has been chairman. Vetenskapsrådet is the Swedish equivalent of the NIHR/MRC.
Each year the Clinical Therapy Board allocates about 300M Swedish Crowns (about £30M) in grants for clinical research, predominantly trials, test accuracy studies and epidemiology.
