Research Centre for the Study of Parties and Democracy

The State of Representation in Britain

The first event of the year featured a panel on the state of representation in contemporary British politics.

Neema Begum spoke about her work with the lack of descriptive representation among local councillors, from the perspective of both women’s and ethnic minority backgrounds. Siim Trumm spoke about the disconnect between local representation and campaign strategies for general election. And Kevin Fahey shared his research on Northern Irish MPs and the disconnect between the way that represent voters at Stormont and in Westminster.

Thank you to all who attended. We look forward to seeing you at our next event- a mini-workshop on works in progress of centre members.
