Access expertise

Our people are one of the greatest assets we can offer to SMEs.

Our world-class academics are globally recognised for their knowledge, experience and innovative approaches. Numerous SMEs have benefited from research and development projects undertaken with us.

We train some of the brightest students in the world. Through our student projects, placements and internships, your business gains access to the expertise of world-class students, graduates and postgraduates.

Funding for innovation

Businesses that fail to innovate are at risk of falling behind their competitors. Their market shares decrease and their profits fall.

By working with us to innovate, your business can acquire that competitive edge. We provide innovation funding through government schemes such as Knowledge Transfer Partnerships (KTP), Innovation Vouchers or Collaborative R&D. These initiatives help businesses develop new products and processes and find new solutions.

Some companies on our innovation schemes see their profits increase by up to £250k per annum.

Professional development

The international business environment is constantly changing. You need to be confident that your staff has the latest skills and expertise to handle new challenges.

Our Continuing Professional Development programmes offer training across a large range of subjects. For those who want to obtain professional business and leadership qualifications, courses are offered up to MBA level.

Events and networks

The University runs a number of events and business networks which provide invaluable support to small and medium-sized businesses.

Our Ingenuity Network is a great way for businesses like yours to meet experts at the University who can help you gain the knowledge and expertise you need. Our free regular breakfast events, seminars and workshops are immensely popular with the local business community.

Other free-to-join business networks run by the University include:

  • The Nottingham Manufacturing Network, a membership organisation which aims to champion the strengths and diversity of these local manufacturing businesses.
  • EmChem, an organisation for regional businesses using chemistry.

The value of the Ingenuity Network goes beyond what I do in my everyday work. It helps me connect with a variety of professionals, businesses and academics from diverse industries, some of whom I would never have had the opportunity to meet with and to learn from.

This has provided me with invaluable insights that have benefitted not only myself, but also my patients and how I run my business.
