One of the biggest sporting events in the University calendar is heading to Nottingham in March 2018 thanks to a winning bid by University of Nottingham Sport.
University of Nottingham have been selected by British Universities and Colleges Sport (BUCS) to host the BUCS Big Wednesday event, where the top university teams will compete for national championship finals.
With hundreds of participants taking part, BUCS Big Wednesday will be hosted across several campus venues including the new multi-million David Ross Sports Village as well as at local partners Nottingham Tennis Centre and Nottingham Hockey Centre.
The home advantage will be a huge boost to University of Nottingham teams who reached a record number of finals at last year’s BUCS Big Wednesday in Bath. Fourteen different sports will be played and 2017 championship finalists table tennis, squash, badminton and hockey will all be on the hunt for gold on home soil.
BUCS Head of Sport - Mark Brian said;
‘We are delighted to be going to Nottingham for BUCS Big Wednesday in 2018. Their world class facilities will ensure the event continues to display the highest quality university sport. The proximity of venues being used will also create a great atmosphere around the event to maximise both player and spectator experience.
We look forward to working with the University of Nottingham to deliver what will be a fantastic event.’
University of Nottingham’s Director of Sport Dan Tilley added;
“It’s an honour to be hosting BUCS Big Wednesday in 2018 and we’re incredibly excited to welcome BUCS and all the competitors here to Nottingham."
"We’re very proud of the world-class facilities here at the university and hope to offer a truly inspiring venue to the UK’s best student athletes.”
