Aldi, Britain’s fourth-largest supermarket, has become the latest brand to join the University of Nottingham’s BUCS Super Rugby programme, following a successful maiden season in the top flight of University Rugby.

The partnership brings together two names with fantastic histories, with both working towards further success in 2023 and beyond.

For Nottingham students, wearing the Green and Gold is about so much more than just pulling on a jersey. Every student who does so becomes part of the fabric of the University’s illustrious sporting history.

Only recently, the University of Nottingham Men’s Rugby Union Club marked a significant milestone as it celebrated its centenary. From the stewardship of the first ever captain D.L. Nicholas in 1919 to today’s President Tristan Duncan, the club’s tradition is rich.

Meanwhile, Aldi arrived in the UK in 1990 as the ‘true champion’ of low-cost groceries, making fresh, affordable food accessible for all.

The supermarket has established a highly reputable Graduate Area Manager Programme, which welcomes applications from all students.

The sponsorship will see Aldi displayed on kit, digital screens and advertising boards at Highfields Sports Complex, with a number of key marketing activations and careers workshops planned throughout the season.

Tristan Duncan, University of Nottingham Rugby Club President, adds:

“We are delighted to have Aldi on board and this partnership is not only a great way to kick start our 2023/24 BUCS Super Rugby Season, it is also a crucial step in Nottingham’s journey to becoming an established BUCS Super Rugby side.

It is important to us that this sponsorship supports not only the men’s team, but also the infrastructure to support the Women’s and Touch teams as well. The new digital LED TV scoreboard at Highfields Sports Complex is a further demonstration of our commitment to growing Rugby at the University of Nottingham alongside our valued partners.”

Kelly Stokes, Recruitment Director at Aldi, said:

“We are thrilled to launch this partnership with the University of Nottingham, to support students to achieve success both in sport and their future endeavours.

Aldi’s increased popularity and customer demand for quality products allows us to keep growing and create more employment opportunities — and partnerships like these help us make the Everyday Amazing possible.”
