Coaching opportunities at University of Nottingham Sport

The University of Nottingham invests significantly in its sporting infrastructure, with a £40m Sports Village and substantial investment in its coaching and development support for its 74 sports clubs and 125+ active teams. The University was also awarded The Times and Sunday Times Sports University of the Year Award for 2019, 2021 and most recently in 2024. As we strive to continue to deliver the best sporting environment for our student athletes, we are now recruiting for two head coaching roles, and an assistant coaching role.

These roles are for a Cricket Head Coach (Men's and Women's), a Women's Rugby Union Head Coach, and a Men's Hockey Assistant Coach. You can find out more about these roles below.

 

University of Nottingham Cricket Head Coach (Men's and Women's)

We require a coach to deliver the cricket programmes in line with our Vision for Sport that ensures sustained performance success and outstanding student experience. The head coach will lead and deliver performance programmes for both Men’s and Ladies clubs for the 2024/2025 BUCS season. This includes planning and delivery of training, coaching on selected match days, supporting the recruitment of athletes and club development. Please note that this role can be combined to oversee both clubs, or separated to the candidates strengths and experience.

Minimum Requirements:

  • ECB Level 2 qualified (Level 3 desirable)
  • Hold valid and appropriate insurance
  • Ladies training: 2 hours per week (Thursdays 20:30-22:00)
  • Mens Training: 2 hours per week (Tuesdays 18:00-20:30)

Selection Process

  • Shortlisted candidates will be invited to interview with UoN Sport staff and Club committee members. Successful candidates from interview will be asked to deliver a coaching session to club members.
  • Interview date: Thursday 9th May 2024
  • Coaching sessions: May 2024

Contract Type: Contract for Service

Contract Value: Approximately 65 hours training for both clubs, plus selected match days, commensurate to experience.

University of Nottingham Rugby Union Head Coach (Women's)

The University of Nottingham Womens Rugby Union Club are seeking an experienced Rugby Union coach for the 2024/25 academic year. The head coach will act as 1st XV coach alongside supporting the development of rugby throughout the club. The coach will deliver an innovative and effective Rugby programme to support the development of elite and competitive Rugby within the club.

Minimum Requirements:

  • The coach will ideally hold at least a Level 2 coaching qualification

Selection Process

  • Tender documents must be submitted by the deadline on Tuesday 28th May 2024
  • Presentations are scheduled for Wednesday 5th June 2024

University of Nottingham Hockey Assistant Coach (Men's)

University of Nottingham Hockey Club is established as one of the leading university hockey clubs and is aspiring to regain its status as a Premier Division Club and be consistently top 2 in BUCS each year.

The Men’s Hockey Performance Squad is looking for a new Assistant Coach for the 2024/25 season to support our multi disciplinary coaching team including Head Coach, Physiotherapy, Strength & Conditioning, Performance Analysis, Psychology, Nutrition and Lifestyle advisors.

The Assistant Coach would be required to support the delivery of two practical coaching session a week (4 hours in total), on a Monday and Friday. The coach would be required to attend one match per weekend with the 1st XI (National Division One), with the opportunity of attending BUCS fixtures also depending on availability.

What does the role require?

  • Working alongside Head Coach in the planning, coordination and delivery of a high-quality programme
  • 4 hours practical coaching sessions a week during term time
  • Approximately 2 hours supporting the preparation and delivery of review meetings including, Team, Individual and MDT meetings
  • Attending EHL matches in a manager/assistant coach capacity
  • Assisting with team selection for matches
  • Assisting with player management within the performance squad

We are looking for a forward thinking, enthusiastic and highly skilled individual who demonstrates the values of the Men’s Hockey Club of respect, integrity and progression

Skills, Abilities and Experience

  • Outstanding technical knowledge of individual and team principles including techniques, tactics and coaching trends and ability to apply the demands of National League and BUCS Hockey.
  • Ability to manage conflicts of interest and ensure these do not compromise their credibility, the reputation of the University of Nottingham or ability to fulfil all aspects of the role
  • An understanding of talent development principles and developing young athletes with a track record of effective talent identification and selection
  • Demonstrated experience in planning, organising, and implementing a comprehensive performance coaching programme for aspiring elite athletes
  • A forward-thinking coach who understands and is able to apply different coaching approaches to their delivery to meet the needs of the players
  • Ability to support, develop, challenge, and empower others
  • Strong communicator; able to accurately disseminate information using a variety of methods and to a range of audiences (Head Coach, Players, S&C, Physio, Managers, Nutritionist, Psychologist etc.)
  • Self-motivated and able to work independently and as part of a team
  • Is efficient and organised, with strong awareness of self and self-regulation and the ability to meet competing demands through effective time management
  • Ability to exercise sound judgement, observe confidentiality and use discretion and initiative
  • A full Driving Licence

Minimum Requirements:

  • The deliverer must also hold appropriate personal liability insurance. The minimum 315 hours contract is over a 30 week period, which will include coaching delivery, attendance at matches, recruitment and administration however additional hours can be tendered for if deemed necessary to achieve the required outcomes that will be set out in the tender document
