On the 8th and 9th June, plenty of members of the University of Nottingham’s Volleyball club headed down to Sandbanks Beach in Dorset to take on the 2023 BUCS Beach Volleyball Championships.
The #GreenandGold were well represented at the event, with 18 competitors across 9 pairs flying the flag for the University of Nottingham. The most notable of these athletes were Jacob Thomas and Oliver Quick, and Isabel Brown and Adele Sotgiu who came away with gold medals in the Men's Shield and Women's Shield respectively.
Sports scholars Ben Lucas and Campbell Schoenfeld also put in a great performance in the Men's Championship, reaching the final before finishing second and bagging themselves a pair of fantastic silver medals. Alongside this, Shahrouz Farhadi and Blake Crisp finished third in the Men's Shield, further increasing the club’s medal haul.
In total the club scored 117 points over the weekend, bringing their overall Volleyball BUCS points to 420 for the year, making them the university with the most BUCS points for volleyball in the country!
Jacob Thomas, first team player and Shield winner, reflected on his performance saying that "it was a brilliant overall experience and I’m very grateful to be a part of the team. I’m looking forward to next year already!"
We congratulate the University of Nottingham Volleyball club on their continued success and wish them an enjoyable summer break. We are already looking forward to welcoming the club back for pre-season later on this year.
