Following up on a very successful cross-country season, alongside representing England at the Copenhagen Half Marathon in September, University of Nottingham masters student Lauren McNeil travelled to Loughborough on 22 April to compete in the BUCS (British Universities and Colleges Sport) 10,000m race.

Now in her final year at the university studying Chemistry, Lauren has been excelling at cross country events in recent years, even during an exchange year abroad studying and competing at the University of British Columbia, Canada, and was hoping that her skills would translate to the track.

Taking on the best UK university athletes at the Paula Radcliffe Stadium last weekend, Lauren proved herself to also be highly adept at yet another discipline, finishing in a time of 34:15.53 to finish in second place and earn a well-deserved silver medal. After the race, Lauren reflected on her performance saying that "it was certainly a mental challenge to run 25 laps but a good experience overall."

We congratulate Lauren on her success and wish her the very best as she focuses on 5k road races over the summer, as well as potentially competing in another 10,000m race on the track after her performance at BUCS. We also hope that Lauren enjoys her final few months studying here at the University of Nottingham.

Next up for the University of Nottingham Athletics Club is the BUCS Outdoors Championship which takes place this weekend from the 29 April to the 1 May at the Manchester Regional Arena. We would like to wish the club the best of luck. You can keep up to date with the club by following them on social media here
