Trampoline club spring to BUCS success

University of Nottingham Sport at 2024 BUCS Trampolining

Earlier this month, University of Nottingham Trampolining Club took a small team of down to Warwick to compete at the 2024 BUCS (British Universities and Colleges Sport) Trampoline and DMT Championships. Despite suffering injuries leading up to the competition, the Nottingham team fought through and managed to earn a huge 47 BUCS Points, and placing third overall as a university - missing out on second by only 1 point!

Our competitors really held their own as one of the smaller teams attending the competition finishing the weekend with 13 finalists and 9 medals. Following their fantastic performances on the trampolines, the following University of Nottingham athletes ranked highly and earned valuable BUCS Points for the institution. Johannes Schipp Von Branitz finished second in the Men’s FIG DMT to win silver, whilst Joshua McSweeney finished fourth in the same event. Emily Smith & Rebecca Dormer placed third in the Mixed Level 1 TRS (Synchro) for bronze, whilst Lucy Moores registered second in the Women’s FIG TRI (Individual) adding a second silver to Nottingham’s tally. All three combined in the Women’s Team event to finish a superb second and claim yet another silver. The championships also saw medals for Leah Hebden with a bronze in the Women’s Performance DMT, and silver for Noah Welland in the Men’s Level 1 TRI.

Daniel Joseph, Emily Smith and Sahara Carter also narrowly missed out on medals in their respective categories of Men’s Level 2 TRI, Women’s Performance TRI, Women’s Performance DMT.

This year’s competition also brought the introduction of the nail-biting Trampoline Knockout - a knockout style event where the top 8 competitors across the entire weekend are pitted against each other as they build routines adding more moves each round. The #GreenandGold had 2 competitors selected for this event with Joshua McSweeney making it to the quarter-finals and Lucy Moores to the semi-finals. The competition was an exciting addition to the event for spectators and competitors alike.

After their top level performances, Rebecca Dormer (Club Competition Secretary) and Emily Smith (Club President) reflected on the event.

Rebecca Dormer: “I’m so proud to have been able to be a part of such an amazing team, BUCS always provides such a good atmosphere and the support from the team has such a positive impact on the success of both individuals and the team.

Emily Smith: “Trampolining is such an unpredictable sport it always comes down to each individual’s performance on the day.  The team worked really hard for this competition and it was really great to see some great results come out of it.  The dedication of each competitor has been admirable and the support everyone has for each other is unmatched.  I couldn’t be more proud to lead such an amazing team.

Everyone at University of Nottingham Sport congratulates all of our representatives and University of Nottingham Trampoline athletes on their success. Alongside this success at BUCS, the club have won 4 of the 5 competitions in the Northern League with the final competition coming up in April, and it would be amazing to see a clean sweep for Nottingham across the board.
