Trampolining club reach new heights at BUCS championships

University of Nottingham Trampolining at BUCS 2023

The University of Nottingham Trampolining club has 40 active members, and 12 of those 40 were selected from trials to compete at the BUCS Trampoline & DMT Championships in Birmingham. Competing in 3 disciplines (Trampoline, DMT and Synchro), the club were successful in each, gaining 12 medals over the course of the weekend. Their performances also meant that our trampolinists managed to obtain 4 times as many BUCS points than in previous years.

On the first day of the two day BUCS Trampoline Championships on 25 March, University of Nottingham Sport had two very successful competitors in the Men’s Levels 3 and 4: Justice Nkondi-Tsielo and Maciej Szuchnicki with both taking home a gold medal in their respective categories. Also on the Saturday, Emily Smith and Becca Dormer took home a silver medal in the top level Synchronised Trampoline category. Finally, also taking home a silver medal, Johannes Schipp von Branitz competed in Men’s FIG level DMT completing 4 impressive passes against world level athletes.

Day two of the championships played out to be equally as impressive with Lucy Moores competing in the Women’s FIG category and taking home a silver medal and 8 BUCS points for the University of Nottingham. On top of this, our athletes gained 20 more BUCS points from our two entries into the team events with both sets of trampolinists earned a bronze medal. Josh McSweeney, Maciej Szuchnicki, and Justice Nkondi-Tsielo came third in the Men’s, whilst Lucy Moores, Emily Smith and Aimee Smith also landed on the podium for the Women’s team.

Our University of Nottingham Trampolining club head coach, Lauren Medland, reflected on the performances of the club at the championships by saying; “I am over the moon with the performance by our athletes this weekend. This year has been our best results by far because of the hard work everyone has put in since the beginning of the year. Although we compete as individuals, the team spirit in the University of Nottingham Trampolining club is unmatched and we couldn't succeed without each other's support. I am one proud head coach!”

At the end of April the club will compete in their final competition of the Northern Universities Trampoline League for a chance to win the league. It will be an exciting competition and the results will be tight but our fingers are crossed that the club can deliver another great result and a title to go with it.

A huge congratulations to the club and all of our athletes, and we wish UoN Trampolining the very best for their final competition.
