In a spectacular display of skill and determination, Marie Mattel (left) and Rebeka Stolmar (right) from University of Nottingham Tennis secured the gold medal in the women's event at the 2023 BUCS (British Universities and Colleges Sport) Doubles National Championships held at the Shrewsbury Tennis Centre from November 18th- 19th.

Stolmar and Mattel, who play at the number 1 and 2 positions for UoN Tennis, have had an undefeated start to the season. Their exceptional form continued at the Championships, where they didn't drop a set on their way to a resounding victory. The duo's success adds to the legacy of UoN Tennis, as the team has claimed gold in the women's event for the third consecutive year.

Currently leading their league against formidable opponents such as Loughborough and Bath, Rebeka and Marie have established themselves as key players for UoN Tennis. Both athletes are scholars and have enjoyed remarkable success both before and during their time at the University.

In addition to Stolmar and Mattel's triumph, the club had two more pairs shine at the championships. Maisie Wood and Emma Sawkings, along with Emin Torlic and Bradley Buckland, also reached the quarterfinals, highlighting the team's overall strength in the competition.

The BUCS Doubles National Championships is widely regarded as a prestigious event within the BUCS tennis community, with a history of attracting elite tennis players over the years.

Reuben Newman-Billington, President of UoN Tennis, expressed his pride in the team's achievements, stating, "we are very proud of Rebeka and Marie. They are fantastic role models within the club, showing great humility, leadership, and passion in training and on the match court. Well done Rebeka and Marie - what an amazing achievement, we can't wait for more!"

Looking ahead, the University of Nottingham Tennis first team aims to continue their success in the league, with aspirations to secure the top division title. The team is also eager to establish a strong presence in cup competitions. The next challenge on their agenda is the BUCS Singles National Championships 2023, where they hope to add more silverware to their collection.
