The University of Nottingham was recently awarded the BUCS (British Universities and Colleges Sport) Physical Activity Excellence Award at the 2023 BUCS Winter Summit, which was also held on the University of Nottingham campus. The award recognises institutions that achieve a sector standard within higher education, demonstrating good practice in increasing physical activity engagement across its population and is assessed across four pillars. These four pillars are; strategy and planning, insight and research, partnerships and collaboration, and implementation and delivery.

At University of Nottingham Sport, we are delighted to have received the Physical Activity Excellence Award, joining a group of seventeen institutions across the country. Katy Teasdale, Assistant Director of Sport - Participation, reflected on this achievement by saying:

"At UoN Sport we believe that students who want to participate in physical activity whilst at university should be able to do so, and more importantly, be able to be their true authentic selves in this space. We are delighted to receive the Physical Activity Excellence Award as recognition of the work we have done, and continue to do, to proactively breakdown barriers to engagement in physical activity to make sure that participation is truly inclusive. Congratulations to the other 6 institutions who were successful in their applications. We look forward to learning from best practise across the sector to enable even more students to be active at the University of Nottingham."

The BUCS Physical Activity Excellence Award adds to our recent recognition as Sports University of the Year for 2024, as well as the Best Residence Life Experience award that the department earned at the 2023 College & University Business Officers (CUBO) Awards. We would like to thank everyone involved with the #GreenandGold for continuing to deliver outstanding sport and fitness opportunities and experiences for all of our University of Nottingham students, and look forward to all that's ahead in 2024.
