Winter Championships heat up for UoN Taekwondo

BUCS Taekwondo Winter Championships - University of Nottingham

Travelling to Southampton to compete at the BUCS (British Universities and Collegers Sport) Winter Taekwondo Championships on the 18th February, the University of Nottingham Taekwondo club delivered great performances across men's and women's competition.

University of Nottingham Sport Scholar Matthew Howell continued his incredible form in the #GreenandGold by winning all three of his match-ups in the -68kg category to earn another gold to add to his ever growing collection. Howell's team mate Jacob Thorley also earned himself a spot on top of the podium at the championships by winning the four matches in front of him and with it the BUCS Gold Male A Class ITF Patterns title. In addition, Thorley wasn't finished and added BUCS Bronze in the Male A Class ITF Sparring competition to make it a fantastic weekend for the Nottingham man.

In the women's competitions, Harriet McGrath and Norman Galiza also doubled up in the medals by winning two C Class Patterns events. The pair claimed the BUCS Pairs Gold (C Class), and then teamed with Ella Bowen to win the BUCS Teams Patterns (C Class) to ensure that the University of Nottingham finished comfortably into the top ten of all participating universities. With 23 wins and 15 losses overall at the event, the #GreenandGold posted a 7th place finish as an institution and now begin preparations for the BUCS Spring Championships at the end of March.

Club Vice President James Saunderson reflected on the Winter Championships by stating "everyone should be extremely proud of themselves for taking part in such a successful competition."
