During your studies, you might need to update the name, gender or address on your student record. You can check your personal details through NottinghamHub. If you need to update something, you can find out how to do this in the sections below.

What you need to know

Updating your name and/or gender

To request an update to the name and/or gender on your student record, you’ll need to complete the name/gender update request form. As part of the form, you’ll be asked to provide evidence that supports the update(s) being requested. Once you’ve submitted your form, please visit any of our student service centres with the original copy of your evidence so we can verify the details and process this for you.

If you identify as trans or gender non-conforming, you can request an update to your name and/or gender without needing to provide evidence, in line with section 6 of our guidance document. When you complete the name/gender update request form, you’ll be asked if you identify as trans or gender non-conforming. If you answer ‘yes’ to this question, your request will be passed to the Associate Director of Student and Campus Life for review, and we’ll let you know when we have received approval to update your details on NottinghamHub.

There are a few important things to consider when updating your name on your university record:

  • If you are in the UK with immigration permission, you should seek support and advice from our visa and immigration team to make sure that you are fully informed about any immigration implications before requesting a name or gender update.
  • If you are expecting to register with an external body following your graduation, such as those you may need to register with in order to pursue a career in a regulated profession, the name on your university record is likely to need to match your legal name. Regulated professions could include those in the fields of health and social care, architecture, education and law, among others. If you're not sure whether this will affect you, please speak to your school before submitting the form.
  • The university may occasionally send you items through the post. This will always be addressed to the name on your student record. You might want to consider how you would feel about others seeing the name on your university record on any post you receive. If you would like to update the name on your university record but want to be sure that post addressed to you will not be sent to a particular address, such as your home address, you can update this on NottinghamHub.

Once your name and/or gender update has been processed, it usually takes a few days for it to update fully across the different systems used at the university, such as Teams, Moodle and Outlook.

Updating your address

The university might need to get in touch with you by post from time to time, so it’s important that you keep your details up to date. It’s easy to update your home and term-time addresses in NottinghamHub, as explained in this helpful video.

When you log into NottinghamHub, you might also see a mailing address listed. You won’t be able to amend this, but don’t worry – we don’t use this information to contact you, so just make sure your home and term-time addresses are kept updated.
