By becoming a member of September Vet Soc you automatically gain full access to all the following facets of our society:
- Our clinical sub-societies arrange educational and eye-opening talks, trips and practicals that cater for anyone interested in equine (NEVS), farm animals (NFAVS) and small animals (NSAVS), providing something for everyone.
- The International Veterinary Student’s Association (IVSA) run exchanges with other vet schools across the world, offering you the opportunity to experience teaching and university life in another country.
- The Association of Veterinary Students (AVS) represents our members at a national level and helps us keep close with our fellow vet schools in the UK and Ireland by organising events and initiatives for all.
Our Social Secretaries coordinate some of the most impressive balls, boat parties and socials that you can attend. Our Charity Officer leads many successful initiatives that allows us to give back to the community and importantly, support and inclusivity for our members is at the heart of our society and we ensure that this is implemented with our Welfare officer, LGBTQIA+ Officer and EDI Officer.
Our aim is to create an experience that makes vet school the best and most memorable years of your life! The September Vet Soc committee are very much looking forward to meeting you all and getting you involved with everything we have to offer.

Fresher’s Week
This, for many, is arguably the best week at university. It is immensely fun, care-free and you will also make friends for life within this week. Vet Soc host a number of events in fresher’s week, all aimed at getting to know your new peers and to help make memories that will last a lifetime.
Fundraising Events
Charity is becoming a more and more integral part of the society. Look out for our charity fundraising events we will hold during the year.
Robin Hood Half Marathon
Vet Soc members enter into this Nottingham charity event to raise money for Vets in the Community, a student lead organisation offering free healthcare to pets whose owners are homeless. This year the race is on 24 September 2023. You can find more information on the Robin Hood half marathon website.
Vet Ball
Dust off your tuxedos and grab your dresses as this is the biggest event of the year, one not to be missed! Tickets are highly discounted for Vet Soc members so do not miss out.
Ward Round
We take part in one of the university's biggest bar crawls, competing against numerous other societies including the Medics and Physios. No surprise who the winners usually are so we will be back to defend our crown this year!
Clinical Club
We are lucky to have a number of superb speakers talking on a range of topics throughout the year, there will surely be something to interest everyone. As mentioned, the species-specific sub-societies ensure you gain that extra knowledge and extra skills through talks and practicals free for all Vet Soc members.
Welfare week
This is a week dedicated to championing mental health awareness and highlighting all the support options available to you. Along with lots of informative sessions, we also put on many fun events too, and raise some money for important charities such as Mind and Vet Life.

Joining Vet Soc and becoming part of the largest society on campus gives you an incredible number of benefits, both socially and academically.
All you have to do is head to the Students’ Union website, add the membership to your basket and check out.
You can only join Vet Soc from September onwards. If you join in the month of September, you will receive a free complimentary t-shirt.
I’m really looking forward to meeting you all soon and helping you settle into university life! We have a great committee who I’m very excited to be working with throughout the year and we hope to make your first year as memorable and enjoyable as possible.

General secretary involves working closely with all of committee to support them, organise events and complete the STARS. This year I’m hoping to get gold status for our society again, organise another great vet ball and put on some exciting new social events!
My main roles as senior social secretary includes organising the boat party, Vet Ball, ward rounds, the annual VetSoc trip and many other socials. I hope to work with the junior social sec to organise some of the best socials for all the members to enjoy.
I’m Junior Social Sec and I am responsible for assisting the Senior Social Sec with organising various VetSoc socials including Vet Ball. I am also responsible for the Big Vet Little Vet scheme which we run to help ease the transition into vet school! In particular, I am really looking forward to bringing our vision for Vet Ball to life and to continue to get to know others in the society.
I chose to run for treasurer as I wanted to ensure that all VetSoc members get the most out of their membership. I want to make sure the society’s finances are utilised effectively to ensure the success of every VetSoc event throughout the year.
My role involves making Sutton Bonington more inclusive for people of different colours, ethnicities, genders, races and more! I’m looking forward to hosting talks and socials so that everyone can get involved and meet new people.
I’m the LGBTQIA+ rep, this means that I ensure that all LGBTQIA+ people on campus feel welcomed and supported. This year I’m hoping to put on more talks and events that can educate everyone on campus. This year I am particularly excited as there is an LGBTQ+ society on campus which I am involved in and hope to work with as the representative for September VetSoc.
From organising welfare weeks to signposting help from both within and outside of the university; my role is to make sure everyone in our community feels like they have someone to talk to no matter how big or small the problem may seem.
I hope to work with mental health charities within the farming community and also ensure the incoming students have a positive start to university life and beyond.
My role involves communicating with the different charities we support so that we can fundraise as much as possible and make a difference to the local community. I hope to organise multiple events throughout the year, including the Nottingham half marathon and the naked calendar, which everyone can get involved in. I will work closely with the April Charities Officer to select the charities which are most important to us as a society. I’m really looking forward to planning some fun events such as sports tournaments and barn parties and can’t wait to see a great turnout from the campus! The IVSA Co-ordinator position involves working collectively alongside with the junior and senior IVSA members. The role also entails connecting with other vet schools as well as fundraising in order to organize the annual exchange for students.
I am looking forward to welcoming students through various pub quizzes and meet and greets in efforts to build a stronger sense of community.
