Entry requirements

Foundation courses

A levels and STPM are widely accepted for undergraduate entry and it is rare for Foundation courses to be required - although they may be recommended if the wrong mix of subjects has been taken for your chosen degree.

Our foundation courses

We offer foundation courses for international students who are not qualified for direct entry to our undergraduate degree courses.

These courses are available at the University of Nottingham International College, just next to University Park Campus, in partnership with Kaplan International Colleges.

Find out more about the courses, entry requirements and progression options on Kaplan's website:

Applications and enquiries for these courses are handled by Kaplan and the college.

Full-time courses across our five faculties typically last for three to four years, although some degrees such as medicine and architecture have a longer duration.

Undergraduate entry requirements

Our Undergraduate Prospectus lists entry requirements for A levels and International Baccalaureate students for each course.

As well as our own foundation courses, we accept foundation certificates from selected providers in the UK.

We can accept the following average grades as A level equivalents for entry to most undergraduate programmes:

  • Unified Examination Certificate (UEC) ranging from AAB3B3B3 to A1A1A2A2A2
  • American Degree Transfer Programme (ADTP): ranging from GPA 2.7 to 3.8
  • Australian Matriculation Programme (ATAR) ranging from 86 to 96
  • Canadian International Matriculation Programme (CIMP) ranging from 79% to 87%
  • Diploma programmes from local or private institutions with a minimum GPA of 3.2 and above to be considered on a case by case basis
  • Matriculation certificate or foundation programme from local or private institution (one year programme) ranging from GPA 3.4 to 3.7
  • Monash University Foundation Year (MUFY) ranging from 75% to 88%

This summary is provided as guidance and requirements may vary for individual courses, which often require high grades in relevant subjects.

Students who have completed at least one year at a university in Malaysia and achieved good grades can be considered for direct entry to our undergraduate degree courses.

We can accept UCLES GCE grades in English (C or above) as meeting our English language requirements.

Students taking APs or SATs should refer to our entry requirements for the USA.
