Citycard Cycles come to campus

Citycard Cycle hire bike

Want to hire a bike for the day? Interested in cycling between campuses?

Nottingham’s Citycard Cycle Scheme has been extended recently to include The University of Nottingham campuses. The mobile phone based scheme offers bike hire for £1 per day for anyone, whilst Kangaroo season ticket holders are eligible for free Citycard Cycle hire.

Bikes are available from the following locations on University campuses and can be returned to any hire location – either those on campus or locations across Nottingham city centre.

  • Front of Portland Building, University Park
  • Front of George Green Library, University Park
  • Between Dearing Building and Business School South, Jubilee Campus
  • Between Computer Science and The Exchange, Jubilee Campus
  • Medical School entrance, QMC

Casual hire

£1 all day

To hire a bike

  • Call the phone number advertised on the hire stand. It will be connected to an Automated Call Handling System (ACHS).
  • The ACHS will ask you to type in the number of the bike and the location number, as displayed on the bike and the stand.
  • The ACHS will check that the bike is registered as being at the stated location. If the bike number and location match, the ACHS will take the hire payment via the phone keypad.
  • Once payment has been cleared, the system will SMS text the digital lock combination to your mobile phone. You can then unlock the bike and ride off.

To return a bike

  • When you have finished you can return the bike to any location in the scheme.
  • Lock up the bike and text “Return(space)BikeNo(space)Location No”. For example, to return bike number 234 to location 032 you would text “Return 234 032”. This will terminate your hire period and the bike will be ready for the next customer.

To receive free bike hire, Kangaroo season ticket holders can input their card number when prompted on the Automated Call Handling System.

Frequent hire

First 30 minutes free, then £1 all day

“Hire(Space)Bike No(space)Location No”. For example, to hire bike number 234 from location 030 you would text “Hire 234 030”.
  • If the bike is registered to that location on the system and you have credit on your account, the Automated Call Handling System will text the lock combination to your mobile phone. You can then unlock the bike and ride off.

To return a bike

  • When you have finished you can return the bike to any location in the scheme.
  • Lock up the bike and text “Return(space)BikeNo(space)Location No”. This will terminate your hire period and the bike will be ready for the next customer. For example, to return bike number 234 to location 032 you would text “Return 234 032”.
