March 2023

March is a month of action, with three campaigns to get involved in!

Sustainability Action Week starts Monday 13 March with events dedicated to environmental and socials issues at the university.

Before that, Fairtrade Fortnight continues with bake sales and competitions. On 8 March join a webinar on 'Reducing food waste webinar' as part of Food Waste Action Week.

Food Waste Action Week

How to reduce food waste

Save money and the planet with Food Waste Action Week.
Join us 8 March 12pm - 1pm with the university’s waste contractor Enva for a webinar and Q&A on how food waste contributes to climate change, and tips on how to make your food, and money, go further.

Sustainability Action Week

Take action for the climate

Learn how the university is reducing carbon emissions and acting on climate change, and take part in activities and events. Some highlights are below but there is more going on including; nature based activities, and other events and talks at Sutton Bonington.

Careers in sustainability

The university Careers and Employability team are hosting panel sessions throughout the week, highlighting sustainable career paths.

Learn about hedgehogs, the threats they face and activities of the Hedgehog Friendly Campus Group. Find out how you can help them at UoN and at home.

Climate-conscious commuting needs to increase. The university has many initiatives that can help.

Lunchtime litter picks

Monday 13 March
UP: 12.30-1.30pm Meet at Portland steps (lake side)
SB: 12.15-1.15pm Meet outside the cafe

Join in with a spot of litter picking to make our campuses cleaner and safer for wildlife.

Sustainable travel fair at Jubilee

Thursday 16 March 10.00am - 1.00pm
Outside Advanced Manufacturing Building, Jubilee

Can you travel more sustainably? Purchase a bike from Nottingham Bikeworks at the refurbished bike sale and get cycling freebies from Security. There'll be demos and offers on E-scooters and a new E-bike hire scheme. NET will have info and offers for the tram.

SDG Teach-In

Link your teaching to the UN Sustainable Development Goal’s (SDG's) during March to raise awareness of the importance of sustainable development across all subjects. Simply include a slide indicating which SDGs are relevant.

Fairtrade Fortnight

27 February - 12 March

The university is supporting Fairtrade Fortnight with Fairtrade products on sale across campuses. There's still time to attend a Fairtrade bake sale and enter the coffee bean competitions.

Fill in our Fairtrade survey, give your experience of Fairtrade products and help us achieve Fairtrade accreditation. Enter your email to win Fairtrade goodies.
