January 2024

Hi,

As we hurtle through January, there's a lot to look forward to. Sustainability Action Week is back in 2024! Find out how you can get involved now with our sustainability showcase.

We have good news on initiatives to save water in labs, reduce waste in halls and adapt our campuses to climate change. Plus find out about tree planting and other events.

So let’s get going!

Things you can do now

Sustainability Action Week - showcase your work

During Sustainability Action Week 2024 we're celebrating and promoting the environmental sustainability work of our staff and students.

BHF 'Pack for Good' campaign has best ever year at UoN

UoN has worked in partnership with the British Heart Foundation (BHF) since 2012 to help reduce waste with the 'Pack for Good' campaign. We're delighted to announce that between September 2022 to June 2023, UoN achieved its best ever year of donations.

The university's Community Engagement team encourage students to donate unwanted items when moving out with end-of-term campaigns. The donated items — which would otherwise likely end up in landfill — are sold on in BHF charity shops. The money raised supports their lifesaving research and work.

3,916

bags collected

31.3 tonnes

waste diverted from landfill

The campaign raised £54,824 for BHF!
That's 51.5% more than our previous best year in 2017!
