Sustainability Action Week

Thank you to everyone who took part in, organised or promoted an event for SAW 2024.

It was great to see so many people across the university engage in the week. We bought second hand books, we went on green walks, built wildlife habits and we watched the BBC concert orchestrate perform Wild Isles to name a few! Watch the video to see more.

If you took part in an event, or even if you didn't, please complete our short feedback survey. You could win a Wild Campus book as a thank you.

Sustainability in Action: Research, teaching and personal experience

Sustainability is central to ensuring that the world we live in is maintained for future generations to thrive. It's a core theme in research and teaching at UoN, and students are also making it their personal responsibility to create change for the better.

An interdisciplinary module brings together Natural Science and Liberal Arts students to solve a real-world problem relating to the UN SDGs. Students presented their research solutions on topics from sustainable clothing dyes and managing sea lice infestations in salmon farms, to new sustainable treatments for Rheumatoid arthritis and improving gender inequality in schools. This research could actively contribute to achieving global sustainability and encourages students to practice key skills that are essential for tackling issues of sustainability.

Sustainability also features in students’ personal lives. Kirsty Fox and Nancy Verma are passionate about sustainability and creating a better world and have shared their stories for all to hear.
