Top organisations offer excellent internship opportunities for ESRC students

Round three of the Economic and Social Research Council (ESRC) student internship scheme is now open for applications.

The scheme provides current ESRC-funded PhD students with a fantastic opportunity to spend up to six months in a non-academic organisation within the public, civil society (voluntary) or private sector where they can work as part of a team involved with policy and practice development.

Amongst this year's participating organisations are Creative England; the Department for Business, Innovation and Skills; the Home Office, The Scottish Government and the UK Border Agency.

The internship scheme significantly contributes to the skills and professional development of PhD students. Benefits include the opportunity to network within the policy arena and develop a range of transferable skills and knowledge such as time management and report writing. Hosts also benefit from the additional resource provided by students and help in the production of briefing papers and contribution to the organisation's policy evidence base.

Internship holders receive a three month extension to their ESRC award (conditions apply), and will be able to claim for reasonable travel and accommodation costs (conditions apply).

Interested students must complete the application form (found on our website) and return it with an up to date CV to Julie.Dunsby@esrc.ac.uk by 4 p.m. on Friday 10th August 2012

Visit the ESRC website for further information and application details
