Today the head of the EU Agency for the rights of all Europeans will visit The University of Nottingham's Human Rights Law Centre.
Morten Kjaerum, Inaugural Director of the European Agency for Fundamental Rights will deliver the Centre's annual Spring lecture on Bringing rights home - challenges for the European Union Agency for Fundamental Rights on Wednesday January 28 2009.
The EU Fundamental Rights Agency (FRA) provides assistance and expertise to the EU and its Member States in the field of international human rights law. Morten Kjaerum has been in charge at the FRA since June 2008, and is an expert in the field of racial discrimination and asylum and refugee law.

He was Director of the Danish Institute for Human Rights, and served for six years as expert on the UN Committee on the Elimination of Racial Discrimination.
The open lecture will be introduced by HRLC Co-Director and UN Human Rights Committee Member Professor Michael O’Flaherty. He said: “We are delighted that Morten Kjaerum is delivering the Annual Human Rights Spring Lecture.
“He is the first Director of the EU Fundamental Rights Agency and will be setting the direction for this important new EU institution. Morten Kjaerum himself is a distinguished and widely respected human rights leader in Europe.”
The Human Rights Law Centre is a member of the FRA's legal expert group (FRALEX), for which it produces thematic studies, flash reports and bulletins with respect to specific fundamental rights issues in the UK.
The lecture will be held in Room B55 Law and Social Sciences Building, University Park from 16:30 (prompt start) to 17:45.
