Course overview

This course is the same as BSc Applied Biology (C110), except for an extra year studying abroad as your third academic year. The additional language skills, experience and maturity gained can provide a considerable employment advantage in a competitive job market. 

Year two

Prior to placement, students undertake a special European module (including language study) to improve their knowledge of the scientific and cultural aspects of their chosen country.

Year three: study abroad

This additional year offers students the opportunity to continue studying agriculture at one of our partner institutions in mainland Europe, in the language of the host institution.

Entry requirements

A levels: ABB-BBB, including at least two science subjects at A level (one of which must be biology; other can include maths and geography), and an additional A level or equivalent; alsosecond modern language to grade B at GCSE minimum in the language of the host institution

English language requirements 

IELTS 6.0 (no less than 5.5 in any element)

TOEFL iBT 79 (minimum 17 in listening and writing, 18 in reading and 20 in speaking)

Notes for applicants 

Please note that the marks you are awarded as part of your Certificate in European Studies do not count towards your BSc degree classification.

Our modular courses are flexible and offer the opportunity to combine your main studies with modules in other subject areas (please note that all modules are subject to change).

Same as for BSc Applied Biology (C110), with specialist European module in your second year, prior to your year abroad.

Assessment 

This course contains a year of study abroad. The year out is not credit weighted, though students must pass the year through:

  • attendance and assessment of courses taken abroad (50%)
  • essays and translations (50%) consisting of scientific review (17%), culture research paper (16%) and translations - Science into English (17%).
