Basis of the 2003 Course

Scenario

ASAN are looking to make a $100 million dollar deal with a team of engineers who can demonstrate excellence in a variety of subject areas. These areas are diverse and cover:

> Electronic Engineering – designing a voice activation panel

> Civil Engineering – testing the stress and loading properties of large structures
> Chemical Engineering – design a device for keeping a spaceman at the right temperature
> Environmental Engineering - design and building a chemical separator
> Mechanical Engineering - looking at forces across forces in fluid mechanics
> Materials Engineering - design and build a rig for transporting precious liquids
> Virtual Reality - testing your logic and teamwork skills
> Civil Engineering - destructive testing

There are 7 test bases set up for each subject area. You must work together with your four colleagues to complete each task as professionally and successfully as possible. Specific documentation for each base will be administered at the relevant location. ASAN will make the final decision as to who wins the contract at the end of the course when the teams have made their presentations.

In your team you must:

  1. Create an identity for your 'consultancy'
  2. Solve problems relating to each area
  3. Work together to get each project completed
  4. Show team spirit in various events such as the bowling and soccey
  5. Present your work in a realistic and professional way
  6. Show the ability to pick up new subjects quickly

The deal represents 10 years of contractual money and will leave the consultancy with an almost complete monopoly in a new and developing field of astro-engineering. The test is rigorous and demanding but will result in the successful team becoming the world leaders in their chosen field. A prize worth fighting hard for!
