Black obelisk of Shalmaneser III, side A row 3 Attendants bring "tribute from Musri": two-humped camels. Musri, meaning "borderland," probably refers to a country far to the East. Two-humped camels (they are clearly labelled as such in the insciption) come from the deserts of Central Asia, China, and Mongolia, whereas one-humped Arabian camels come from the Middle East. Two-humped camels also form part of the tribute from Gilzanu in Western Iran. |
