Timebox
Video Installation

Charting an arbitrary passage of time at the beginning of the 21st Century in the form of a visual poem, Timebox expresses the medium from which it is recorded. The work documents a journey through the urban and social fabric of a typical British out-of-season seaside town searching for a conclusion.

This emerging new media, with its associated dropped footage and digital glitches, resonates with the narrative of the attempt to redefine urban and social spaces. The concurrent visual parallel provides a conflict that re-enforces the geography as an arena for discussion.

The work will accrue significance with time, each year gaining nostalgia, the moment frozen forever. Imagine if such work existed from a century ago? A slice of authentic Victorian life captured in sound and vision, enabling the viewer to be invisibly transported back in time to a busy market place, enter a local haberdashers and eavesdrop a mundane conversation from the past. Then you will appreciate that the true value of Timebox is not for the audience of today, but for the generations to follow.
