My introduction to the project was by way of an Ordnance Survey
aerial photograph, which is both beautiful and strange in its appeal.
Initially, however, I was stumped as to how it might serve as a starting
point for my particular contribution. I had been staring at the image
for a while before it occurred to me that I was looking at it upside
down. Perhaps the photograph had been taken flying inland or, alternatively,
seawards and away from the town but, so to speak, looking back. Either
way, the sea would then be at the bottom of the picture rather than
at the top, as I had assumed originally
