Biography
Sandra has been teaching English for Academic Purposes (EAP) for over 15 years, and she has worked in schools and higher education in the UAE, Lebanon and the UK. Sandra joined the Centre for English Language Education (CELE) in 2008, and has taught and led on Presessional Programmes and academic language & communications skills courses. Sandra has taught and collaborated with students at undergraduate and postgraduate levels. Sandra is a member of the School of Education's EDI (Equality, Diversity and Inclusion) committee, and is also a Senior Fellow of the Higher Education Academy.
Expertise Summary
Sandra has an EdD - Doctorate in Education (focusing on the socialisation experiences of international students in higher education), an MA in English Language Teaching as well as a PGCTEAP (Postgraduate Certificate in Teaching EAP). Her teaching and research interests include feedback literacy, curriculum & materials development & EDI as well as the higher education experiences of international students and students from multilingual/bilingual backgrounds.
Teaching Summary
Sandra is interested in how effective questions (EQs) can be used to enhance learning by developing a critical mindset, learner autonomy and more equitable collaborations in the classroom.
