Biography
Barbara read undergraduate chemistry at the University of Oviedo (Spain) where she specialised in organic chemistry. She conducted final-year research with Prof. Jianliang Xiao at the University of Liverpool as an Erasmus student. Her final year research focused on the synthesis of chiral ligands for asymmetric hydrogenation of ketones. Upon completion of her MSci in 2007, Barbara began PhD studies under the supervision of Prof. Jianling Xiao at the University of Liverpool. During this time, her research concerned the development and mechanistic investigation of iridium-catalysed asymmetric reduction of imino bonds. In September 2012, Barbara relocated to Leicester to conduct post-doctoral research with Prof. Dai Davies on mechanistic aspects of acetate-assisted C-H activation.
Barbara was appointed teaching laboratory manager at the School of Chemistry, University of Leicester in January 2016. She then moved to the School of Chemistry, University of Nottingham as Teaching Associate (September 2019), followed by Assistant Professor (August 2020).
