Biography

Luke Norman received his MSci in Chemistry from the University of Nottingham in 2017 completing his final year project under the supervision of Prof. Andrei Khlobystov. He then continued his research with the Nottingham Nanocarbon Group for his PhD which he obtained in 2021. His research consisted of developing a holistic analytical approach to understand the structure and properties of quasi-1D nanowires formed by stepwise reactions within carbon nanotubes. In 2021 he joined the Jesum Alves Fernandes group as a postdoctoral research fellow working as part of the Metal Atoms on Surfaces and Interfaces (MASI) programme grant. In November 2022, Luke became the Knowledge Exchange Fellow of the Nanoscale and Microscale Research Centre with the aim of developing the e-nmRC digital interface and related Knowledge Exchange activities.

Past Research

Luke's research focussed on nanocluster fabrication using Magnetron Sputtering. This project was part of the MASI programme grant which aimed to produce sustainable scarce metal (e.g. Pt, Pd, Au) based nanomaterials for use in electro, photo, and thermal catalytic reactions. His expertise is utilising electron microscopy based techniques (such as TEM and AC-STEM) to characterise the presence of species from nanoclusters down to trimers, dimers, and single atoms.
