Senior Research Fellow, Faculty of Social Sciences
Marie graduated with a first class degree in mathematics and fine art from Rhodes University in Grahamstown, South Africa. She completed a higher diploma in education at the University of Cape Town, and then taught in South Africa for two years before emigrating to the UK. She taught mathematics and computing in secondary schools in South Africa, London and Bristol for about twenty years before moving into the Higher Education sector.
Marie completed her PhD, entitled 'Classroom Mathematical Learning with Computers: the mediational effects of the computer, the teacher and the task', graduating in June 2007.
Marie has worked on a range of research projects in mathematics education and technology-enhanced learning at the University of Bristol (2003 - 2012), University of Nottingham (2012 - 2014), African Institute of Mathematical Sciences (AIMS) in Cape Town (2014 -2016), Swansea University (2017 -2019).
