I obtained my MEng in Chemical Engineering in 2011 (Azad University, Iran). Two years later, I received my MSc in Biotechnology from Heriot-Watt University (UK).
I hold a PhD in Chemical Engineering/Bio-Engineering awarded by Heriot-Watt University (UK) in 2017. I developed expertise on the area of modeling and measuring mechanical properties of biological samples with an extensive use of advanced microscopy techniques (AFM, Confocal microscopy and Widefield microscopy). I mainly worked on in-vitro red blood cells and modeled and measured their mechanical properties to sort the cells for therapeutic applications. Following my doctorate, I joined the Microfluidic research group at Heriot-Watt University to design and develop a microfluidic platform to sort the cells based on their mechanical properties and switched them into fresh media to reduce the centrifugation steps and prepare healthy cells for therapeutic applications. help take forward the group's ongoing work in high temperature materials processing using microwave technologies.
In October 2018 I was appointed as a teaching assistant following the promotion to Assistant Professor of Chemical and Environmental Engineering in September 2019. I am Fellow of the Higher Education Academy (FHEA). My experience as a Teaching & Learning expert has been based on understanding the needs and expectations of students and the way to align teaching and tutoring sessions to meet the students expectations.
