Teaching
Steve Pickering's teaching is in the general area of thermofluids and he has taught or currently teaches thermodynamics, fluid mechanics, heat transfer, energy efficiency, thermal power systems and engineering design.
Research
Steve is a part of the Composites Research Group.
Steve Pickering's is an engineer with an interest in the solving complex industrial problems in the thermofluids area through experimental and modelling research. His research interests cover: thermodynamics, fluid mechanics including two phase flow, combustion and heat transfer, where he combines experimental work with modelling, including the use of computational fluid dynamics.
Current Research
Current research projects mostly involve collaboration and support from industry and include the following:
- The development of processes for the recycling of carbon fibre composite materials, including the development of applications for use of the recycled carbon fibre.
- Thermal management of advanced electrical machines and power electronics systems in the aerospace and power industries.
- Application of computational fluid dynamics to the design and optimisation of chemical reactors.
Future Research
Future research will develop the major themes of the recycling of carbon fibre composites, thermal management of electrical and electronic systems.
