Biography

Dr Chris Ellis obtained his MEng in Aeronautical Engineering at Loughborough University in 2017 followed by a MRes in Gas Turbine Aerodynamics from Fitzwilliam College, University of Cambridge in 2018. He completed his PhD at Loughborough University in 2023 in the field of data-driven turbulence modeling for gas turbine applications. In 2015 and 2016, Dr Ellis worked in the Flight Physics department of Airbus UK. In 2022, he started as a Research Associate at Loughborough University in the National Centre for Combustion and Aerothermal Technology working on gas path performance projects with Rolls Royce plc. He was appointed as Assistant Professor of Aerospace Propulsion at the University of Nottingham in 2023.

Current Research

Chris' current research focuses on applying machine learning and data-driven modelling techniques to fluid dynamics and turbulence modelling problems where the modelled flow depends highly on the turbulence modelling solution selected. These are investigated for gas turbine-related flows where the improved understanding and predictability that could be obtained would support improved efficiency gains in the gas turbine system.
