Biography

I conduct research and consulting in the field of Geotechnical Engineering, with specific focus on tunnelling and soil-structure interaction problems. My current research includes centrifuge, numerical, and analytical modelling of problems related to tunnels, mines, shafts, foundations, piles, in-situ testing, and static/cyclic/dynamic soil-structure interactions.

I am also the Head of Group for the Nottingham Centre for Geomechanics research group.

I am also the MSc Course Director for the Department of Civil Engineering, covering the Civil Engineering MSc, the Structural Engineering MSc, and the Transportation Infrastructure Engineering MSc.

Research Summary

My research expertise is mainly related to geotechnical centrifuge modelling as well as numerical and analytical modelling. My current research includes:

  • tunnelling; soil-structure interaction due to underground construction activities; Cone Penetration Testing (CPT); pile foundations; mining; ground borne vibrations; dynamic soil-structure interaction.

Future Research

I welcome enquiries from potential PhD candidates from Home, EU and international countries who are interested in the following research areas: Tunnelling, soil-structure interaction, geotechnical centrifuge testing, numerical and analytical modelling.
