An inspirational evening

On 3 November 2022, more than 100 supporters like you joined us to celebrate the incredible, life-changing impact of your donations. This was our first in-person reception since 2019 and we were overjoyed to be able to show our appreciation to supporters once again.

Thank you to everyone who joined us on the evening. We hope you enjoyed the talks and the opportunity to discover more about the differences you have made to students’ lives and the inspirational student led projects you have helped create. If you couldn’t make it this time, we hope you’ll join us next year to hear first-hand how your generosity changes lives.

Vice-Chancellor Professor Shearer West welcomed us all and gave an insight to how the university is looking to the future, despite challenging times.

We then heard from Professor Sarah Speight, who spoke about the impact the cost of living crisis is having on students. Next Professor Mark Gillott delivered an insightful talk on the ground-breaking research the university has been undertaking to help create a more sustainable future.

Finally, we had an inspiring Q&A session with two students: Mathew Wheatley and Lara Hill. This was particularly important in learning first-hand how your donations to scholarships can dramatically change lives.

Students from Cascade showcased their incredible projects throughout the evening. Supporters had the opportunity to meet the students behind Project Period - who are working to end period poverty across the University, the University of Nottingham racing team - who even brought the car they built, and the Elephant Welfare Project, who are improving the lives of captive elephants around the world.
