Biography
I graduated with an MSci (Hons) in Chemistry from the University of Nottingham in 2018, during which time I undertook collaborative research projects with GlaxoSmithKline in the development of novel therapeutics. I returned to the University of Nottingham to carry out my PhD studies at the Biodiscovery Institute in 2019 where I worked under the supervision of Prof. Neil R. Thomas and Prof. Cathy L. R. Merry. My PhD research, funded by the BBSRC, focused on the use of bio-orthogonal chemistry to develop in situ "click" chemical functionalisation of self-assembling peptide hydrogels. This was in the hope of creating customisable, more tissue-relevant and predictive 3D cell culture in vitro models for furthering our understanding in disease and developmental biology. During this time, I contributed to the masters course 'ONCG4023: translational technologies for stem cells' where I delivered a taught module on 'adding functionality to biomaterials'. For several years, I demonstrated in the School of Chemistry undergraduate organic lab modules and designed and supervised undergraduate research projects.
