Research Summary

Project Title: Mass deployable self-administered DNA vaccines

Supervisors: Dr James Dixon, Dr Maria Marlow, Dr Janet Daly

Description:

My research focuses on developing rapidly deployable vaccines worldwide, utilising pDNA strategies.

More specifically, I focus on developing Microneedle Array Patches (MAPs), which consist of a patch base with tiny micro-projections below 1 mm, and therefore enable painless self-administration of vaccines into the skin, eliminating the need for cold-chain infrastructure and reducing dependence on healthcare professionals.

The swine-origin H1N1 subtype influenza A virus that was responsible for the 2009 global pandemic (pH1N1) will be used as an exemplar.
