Biography
I am a qualified pharmacist and health economist; specialising in supporting outcomes evidence within community pharmacy. My work has helped support thinking on the future direction of pharmacy contract frameworks within all UK markets, measuring health outcomes and evidencing the value community pharmacy delivers to our health and social care system through medicines management and optimisation.
I served as an elected member of the English Pharmacy Board of the Royal Pharmaceutical Society from 2016 to 2022 where I championed antimicrobial stewardship and represented the profession on several expert AMR advisory groups. During 2020, I was elected as a member of the global Executive Committee for the Community Pharmacy section of the International Pharmaceutical federation (FIP).
I work in collaboration and advise other academics and research practitioners (including GPs, microbiologists, behavioural scientists, data scientists, economists and psychologists) on research projects that can have an impact on policy and practice. This includes working with UKHSA and NHS England / Improvement on projects to support antimicrobial stewardship across primary and secondary care, the results of some which have already been implemented in practice (e.g. use of TARGET material to support safety netting advice with antibiotics prescribed). I regularly act as an academic peer reviewer for journal publications, research funding applications, and have been an expert reviewer for NICE MedTech Innovation Briefings (MIB).
At an international level, I have worked with colleagues in France to support changing regulations to allow pharmacists to vaccinate, in Norway to support mole screening, and in Netherlands to support pharmacogenomics in practice. More recently during the COVID 19 pandemic, I acted as an advisor to help provide insights to support managed responses at a national and localised level. As a result, I was loaned to the UK Health Security Agency (Jan 2021 to April 2022) to support with variant intelligence and surveillance taking on responsibility for two teams; Head of Research Innovations Partnerships Team, and Head of Health Innovation and Policy Integration Team.
