Postgraduate Research Student,
I qualified as a pharmacist in 2002 after graduating with an MPharm from The University of Bradford. I have seen the development of public access to community pharmacy based enhanced services which has led to increased patient choices via a primary care setting.
I gained further qualifications of Post Graduate Certificate, Post Graduate Diploma and an MSc in Clinical Pharmacy from De Montfort University, Leicester. I have a particular interest in the development of new roles for pharmacists and while at De Montfort carried out a research project titled "Is there a distinct role for pharmacists to contribute to children's healthcare in schools?" This enabled me to identify barriers faced by pharmacists and would like to in future investigate how to facilitate solutions in order to develop new services.
I have been working across both community and hospital sectors and seen the benefits to patients of pharmacist led disease state management clinics. In particular, via my personal involvement with community pharmacy based anticoagulant clinics. Through my work in hospital I have seen the impact on patients and the NHS of osteoporosis related fractures. Osteoporosis treatment adherence issues are well documented and I plan to research into how pharmacists could deliver an osteoporosis medication adherence intervention to improve the situation. This would lead to better outcomes for patients and cost savings for the NHS.
I have been working as a Professional Practice Consultant with The School of Pharmacy in Nottingham since 2016.
