Advisory Group

An Advisory Group consisting of University of Nottingham senior management (for example global engagement pro vice-chancellor, faculty pro vice-chancellors, Head of School of Education), representatives from the African diplomatic mission; representatives from organisations working in the African continent (for example African Union Commission) and representatives from industry will also be established.

The Advisory Group will serve to provide informed guidance and expert knowledge on specific Association of African Universities Europe Regional Office (AAU ERO) activities within their jurisdiction, including, but not limited to, marketing, funding, mentorship of steering committee, and promoting the activities of the ERO throughout their own networks.

Purposes/roles of University of Nottingham ERO and Steering Group in the operationalisation of the Memorandum of Understanding (MOU)

Purpose/roles of ERO

  • Convene and coordinate membership in the region including engaging potential members and improving relations and active participation among existing members
  • Facilitate and manage partnerships between regions and with multisectoral partners including academia, government and civil society to strengthen relationships, increase knowledge sharing, promote collaboration and mobilise resources for the ERO
  • Implement projects and programmes which further the objectives of the University of Nottingham and AAU partnership

Purpose/role of the Steering Group

  • Advise on the structure and implementation of the ERO according to the MoU, including identifying the objectives, priorities, roles and responsibilities of the ERO
  • Use own influence and expertise to support the ERO in achieving its desired outcomes and deliverables
  • Advise on collaborative projects, including the viability of proposals, identifying experts and reviewing project processes
  • Support with resolving strategic level issues and risks
  • Understand and represent the interests of MOU stakeholders
  • Communicate positively about ERO and promote the activities of the AAU ERO partnership through their networks
