Thanks to your generous support, 2024 has been an incredible year, with fantastic events, a new intake of students starting their Nottingham journey and even the opening of a special place on campus to reflect and remember those who have left a gift in their will.

Your belief and support for students gives many the confidence to grasp the many opportunities available to them at Nottingham, without the constant worry of financial pressures. You give them the freedom to realise their potential and set them on the path to a rewarding future.

Whatever you give, you’re helping to make a potentially life-changing difference for those individuals that need it most. Thank you.

Helping students from disadvantaged backgrounds

Thanks to your donations for the Nottingham Potential scholarships programme, 242 talented students from all backgrounds were able to say ‘yes’ to their university place this year. Your support for scholarships means bright and determined students can achieve more than they ever thought possible.

A scholarship is often so much more than just financial help. For many of our students who receive a scholarship it's a vote of confidence, peace of mind and an opportunity to focus on their studies, instead of being distracted by long hours in part-time jobs. The scholarship gives them the chance to enjoy university life to its fullest.

Opening up sporting opportunities

In November we held our third Giving Day, which gave alumni around the globe the chance to come together and raise money to support four amazing causes here at Nottingham. From Azerbaijan to Australia, supporters like you helped to raise more than £80,000 in just 36 hours.

As well as scholarships, medical research and mental health support at the University of Nottingham Students’ Union, a new cause for this year’s Giving Day was the Opportunities Fund. This gives students up to £200 to engage in sporting activities at Nottingham. The extra money can help to buy essential kit or help towards additional training. More than £9,000 was raised for the Opportunities Fund, which will make sport more accessible for up to 45 students.

Stay tuned throughout next year for more sporting updates from those supported by the Opportunities Fund.

Leaving a legacy on campus

Thanks to a generous gift left to the university by a former student, we have enhanced the beautiful Walled Garden on University Park. It now includes a ‘Legacy Wall’ featuring plaques that acknowledge supporters’ contributions and their wider impact on the community.

The Walled Garden is a special place to many, so the nature of the improvements has been subtle and in keeping with the existing character. Developments include better accessibility, new plants and seating.

Earlier this year, the Legacy Wall was officially opened during a special event celebrating those individuals who have already pledged to leave a gift in their will.

We also launched a new free will writing service for our alumni. You can find more details about writing your will for free here, or contact our Alumni Giving Manager on +44 (0)115 951 3997 or via email: legacyenquiries@nottingham.ac.uk

Thank you for everything you do to support the University of Nottingham. Without alumni like you, none of what you've read about above would have been possible.
