Spring Faculty of Engineering volunteering update

We kick-started 2025 with “Inspiring Women in Engineering”, the faculty's STEM outreach programme which aims to encourage Year 10 girls to see themselves, and the world of engineering, differently. Over a period of weeks, supported by three amazing alumni, our female engineering students created outreach activities around the topic of Carbon Neutral Cities that would spark the imagination of the next generation of women in STEM.

In February, we held our annual “Where are they now?” events for each department in the faculty. Architecture, Architectural Engineering, Chemical and Environmental Engineering, Civil Engineering, Electrical and Electronic Engineering, Mechanical Engineering and Aerospace Engineering all welcomed back alumni speakers to showcase where a degree from Nottingham’s Faculty of Engineering can take you.

We had an exciting mix of graduates, working in a varying range of industries and the feedback from students was glowing!

Throughout this term we have also welcomed back incredible alumni for our “Learn with a Leader” series. “Learn with a Leader” is an intimate event where a small group of students have the opportunity to sit down with a business leader and ask them their burning questions on their career and industry in a face-to-face setting – not an opportunity they get every day!

We’re very grateful for all the wonderful volunteers who have taken part in activities in the Faculty of Engineering this term, and throughout the year. The impact these activities have on students is immeasurable and would not be possible without the time and expertise of our fantastic alumni community.
