Advice for university life

"Take opportunities to follow your passions within the course; this will help to develop your professional interests.

Find the balance; take up extracurricular studies, study hard, but remember it’s possible to work too hard.

Ride the wave; don’t beat yourself up upon graduation if it’s hard and challenging in the job market. You have to believe in yourself and in your skillset, and that takes time and it also requires having good people around you.

Be kind to yourself; no one's going to expect you to graduate with all the skills and experience needed to do every job.

As digital natives your generation has a unique skillset. So use what is unique to you, your age, and your experience and your knowledge of being who you are."

Advice if you're considering a humanities degree...

"Follow the thing that makes you come alive because you will get far more out of your education if you're genuinely interested in it.

Get clear work experience while you're a student, because companies and organisations are willing to lend a hand to students in a way they'll never lend a hand to someone who's just graduated."

Advice for freshers

"Make the most of your first year - you'll get the chance to try a lot of different things.

Definitely go to the Freshers' Fair and just see what's out there.

Keep an eye on your emails - lots of the opportunities I have taken up came via email and I know a lot of people just delete them!

Take advantage of your personal tutor and use your lecturers' office hours because they are really helpful to help you understand your feedback. Then that helps improve your grades later on."
