Nottingham University Business School, in collaboration with RSM and Browne Jacobson, is set to host an insightful event themed "What is Good Governance?". This event will delve into the principles and practices that define effective governance in today’s complex business landscape. Attendees will have the unique opportunity to network with industry leaders, academics, and peers while gaining valuable insights from a panel of experts.
The discussion will explore the challenges and importance of good governance, offering attendees actionable takeaways on fostering transparency, accountability, and ethical decision-making within their organisations.

There will be time to network before and after the event with an experienced panel to answer all questions on good governance.

The Panel
Professor David Park - Dean, Nottingham University Business School
David is an experienced entrepreneur and mentor with a wealth of hands-on experience gained in the UK and New Zealand. David is an alumnus of the University of Nottingham (BEng, MSc, PhD).
David was recognised as an Entrepreneur in Residence in the Business School’s Ingenuity Lab in 2017, shortly followed by an appointment as Professor of Practice in 2018. As well as delivering teaching at all levels, David also became Director of Executive Education and Associate Dean (External Engagement). In 2023 he was appointed Dean of the Business School (UK).
Jason Carter - Director of Governance and Assurance, University of Nottingham
Jason is currently the Director of Governance and Assurance at the University of Nottingham, having joined the organisation in 2017.
Prior to joining the university, Jason was Chief Information Security Officer at Associated British Foods PLC where he established a wide-ranging Information and Cyber Security programme. He was also accountable of risk management and IT Audit.
A large portion of his career was spent in the financial services sector working for Experian, where he was Chief Information Security Officer for the UK, EMEA and Asia Pacific regions.
Sam Abbas - Director (CIA, CMIIA, LLB)
Sam Abbas is a Director within RSM’s Risk and Governance solution. Sam works across a range of industries and is also the Head of Internal Audit for a number of public sector organisations.
CMIIA and CIA qualified, Sam joined RSM UK in 2011, and also works with large private businesses providing industry insights, best practice and support in all things governance, internal control and risk management.
Sam has also worked as a Risk Manager for a FTSE listed asset management business.
Craig Elder - Partner, Browne Jacobson LLP
Craig is a partner in Browne Jacobson’s government and infrastructure team. He has worked on major PFI and PPP contracts for both government and private sector clients, working across a range of sectors including leisure, social infrastructure, health, education, energy and defence.
Craig has regularly advised local authorities, central government, and private sector partners and, in recent years, he has played a leading role in establishing long-term collaborations between Browne Jacobson and key public sector clients.
He also acts as a trustee on the board of several charitable organisations.
